[Now Attracting Investment!]

Provincial Governor Kim Mun-su and his party have carried out investment inducement activities including signing investment agreements onsite with companies in San Francisco. The scale of induced investment has already reached $10 billion.

Provincial Governor Kim Mun-su on his visit to the US together with representatives from Gyeonggi Province signed investment agreements on site with Steck Medical and three other companies. The amount of investment from this trip topped $265 million.

As it stands in the two years after Provincial Governor Kim took office the investment in Gyeonggi Province passed the $10 billion mark.

The range of fields invested in has grabbed a lot of attention including expansions made in fields such as IT, BT, other high-tech industries, tourism, distribution and renewable energy.

According to the variation of industries from which the investment was induced it is estimated that the effect on the development of the technology of related industries, and regional economic stimulation would be substantial.

Further, thanks to the foreign investment won over the past 2 years, it is estimated the number of jobs created would have topped 78,000.

[Luxury Lake Park Developed!]

A global standard lake park is planned to be added in the development of the Gwanggyo Luxury City. In the future it looks like Gwanggyo Luxury City will take its place as a famous tourist attraction.

The Gwanggyo new city that is being newly developed in Gyeonggi Province is well-suited for the luxury lake park that is planned to be built within the city.

Gyeonggi Province announced that it will plan to development an 1.78 million square meter environment-friendly lake park in the Gwanggyo foothills using the water from the nearby Woncheon and Shindae reservoirs making it more than twice the size of the lake park in Ilsan.

The theme of the first city park in Korea was attended by international experts from the US and Canada and discussed in depth how the waterside park will be built in the future.

The lake park, which will be formed in a newly-planned city will include a lake where one can enjoy water-skiing and various leisure sports, art and nature on a connected culture trail becoming an environmental place that citizens can enjoy 24 hours a day.

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province will host an international contest this August intended for international architects to come up with a design for the luxury park to give it an international feel.

[Youth Policy Forum]

A forum was held to come up with a mid-long term basic plan for youth policy in Gyeonggi.

The youth population of Gyeonggi Province stands at 2.46 million!

As a local autonomy the Gyeonggi Family and Women Development Institute prepared a Gyeonggi wide youth policy basic 5 year plan. To run the policy effectively and productively a forum was held to gather experts\’ opinions.

With its goal being a growing, regional society of youths by pushing various activity support, clean environment promotion and other detailed policies this policy proposal is planned to create an environment where life can be enjoyed.

Along with the 2009 planned proposal decision which was announced Gyeonggi Province plans to carry out a systematic, detailed 5 year plan through 2013.

Youths in the future take center stage!
We hope this will become a policy to help youths make things happened spontaneously and subjectively.

[World Campers Gather]

Large-scale campgrounds were created in Gapyeong where the FICC International Rally will be held. People from 33 countries will come to Gapyeong to enjoy camping.

The official camping grounds of the FICC International Rally were completed in Gapyeong, Jara Island and Mt. Yeoninsan. A completion ceremony was held on the 14th.

This year the 74th F.I.C.C. Gapyeong International Rally will open on the 24th next month and run for 11 days.

The F.I.C.C. Gapyeong International Rally is a global recreational event where the 7,000 attendees will share friendships with their campers and mobile homes.

Jara Island and Mt. Yeoninsan were selected as venues for the event kicking off the all out construction of the campgrounds since March last year.

At the main venue in Jara Island a clubhouse built on stilts over the water, mobile homes, and additional lodgings and amenities have been prepared.

After making use of the campgrounds in July and August they are planned to become the center of the expanding domestic camping culture.

Especially since by the end of next year the venue and the Jara Island area will be developed along with a Jara Island Botanical culture garden reviving the area as a place of botanical culture.

[Developing the Service Industry]

Compared to other advanced countries Korea\’s service sector is not very competitive. There is a plan to develop the service sector focusing on the Gyeonggi Province tourism industry.

Gyeonggi Province has a plan to invest $966.3 million for the next ten years into the four following fields: tourism, medical tourism, education, and basic knowledge services.

Most of the budget will be focused in the tourism field with a lion share of the tourism budget going towards specialized DMZ tourism developments and promotions including war relics, environmental ecosystem resources, and a barracks experience.

Along with this support for the temple stay program, which depicts Korean temple\’s inherent characteristics, there is also a plan to develop tourism packages related to historical sites in the province like the Nam Han Sanseong.

Additionally, there is a plan for cruise tourism packages connecting Pyeongtaek port, Jeongok Port, Jebu Port and the Gyeonggi Coastline to be developed into a marina developing it into a new growth core business.

We hope with a proposal for the development of the service sector we will obtain good results in economic growth and job security.

[Newly-planned city grade new town]

The Gyeonggi Province Gwangmyeong new town development project has begun in earnest. The new town project in the province will start at an accelerated pace.

A new town that would be like a newly-planned city is being formed in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province.

On the 16th, the Gyeonggi Urban Innovation Corporation together with Provincial Governor Kim Mun-su and the Gwangmyeong city mayor concluded an MOU to propel the reorganization project.

The Gwangmyeong New Town project is one that will reorganize the region of Gwangmyeong city, Cheolsan Dong, and Gwangmyeong dong.

At present 118,000 people reside in 42,000 homes, in a total area of 2.25 million square meters making it similar in size to other new towns in Gyeonggi.

The Gyeonggi Urban Innovation Corporation that is overseeing the project will negotiate with local residents to decide the direction, and project length.

Following to the lively development of 21 other areas besides the Gwangmyeong New Town that are currently being developed, the remaining new town developments are expected to receive more leeway.

[English Village at School]

An English hands-on center which was made by remodeling classrooms into places to experience English opened its doors for the first time in Korea.

This space looks as if an English village were moved into this elementary school in Seongnam.

The e-Green Seongnam English Center which opened on the 16th remodeling 17 classrooms into various places to experience English including a lab, and a kitchen.

Here a native English teacher and a Korean English teacher run 12 different programs including art and cooking.

Further, using a video conferencing system students in the classroom are able to talk with and have class with a native English speaker from Australia.

The English Experience Center is expected to run classes for 5th graders from about 60 schools in Seongnam.
