2017 PEACE & PIANO FESTIVAL

The PEACE & PIANO FESTIVAL, the representative festival of the Gyeonggi Arts Center, will be held from August 25 to September 3, marking its 4th anniversary. The theme of this year’s festival, which is Korea’s first festival for a single musical instrument, is “Asian Harmony.”

• August 25 (Fri): Julius-Jeongwon Kim’s Piano Recital
Julius-Jeongwon Kim, a renowned pianist who has been leading the Korean piano scene, has prepared a repertoire including Brahms’s Six Pieces for Piano, Op. 118, and Chopin’s Barcarolle (Venetian Boat Song).

• August 28 (Mon): Collaboration Stage of Park Jong-hoon and Chiharu Aizawa
This collaboration performance is highly anticipated by piano music fans as Park and his wife, Chiharu Aizawa, are expected to create perfect harmony.

• August 29 (Tue): Zhang Zuo’s Recital
China’s rising pianist, Zhang Zuo, visits Korea. He is scheduled to greet audience members with a repertoire that includes Beethoven’s 32 Variations in C minor, and Schubert’s Piano Sonata No.19, D.958.

• August 31 (Thu): Asian Harmony – A Stage of Friendship with Korean, Chinese and Japanese Pianists
Twenty-six-year-old pianists Han Chi-ho (Korea), Rachel Cheung (China), and Kana Okada (Japan) come together for this performance. In addition to the solo performances of each pianist, a variety of piano works will be performed as duos or trios, including Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances for Piano Four Hands, and Rachmaninoff’s Valse & Romance for Six Hands and Suite No.2 for Two Pianos.

• September 1 (Fri): Duo Harmony
ShinPark, a piano duo, plans to greet audience members at this recital where they will offer a world-caliber ensemble performance featuring a variety of duo programs including Ravel’s La Valse for two pianos.

• September 3 (Sun): Finale Concert with Pianist Dang Thai Son and the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra
Dang Thai Son is a first-generation Asian pianist who won the International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition in 1980 and amazed the European piano scene. At this concert, he will play Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand. The Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra, which has emerged as one of the leading orchestras in Korea and has performed with world-renowned masters, will accompany him.
