Under the theme of ‘Lights Dance in Byeokchoji,’ the 2015 Byeokchoji Arboretum Light Festival is taking place from November 28, 2014, through to March 1, 2015, at The Botanical BCJ, which offers numerous spectacles throughout the four seasons. Situated in Gwangtan-myeon of Paju City, The Garden BCJ is a space of ‘natural art’ where the splendor of Korea’s four seasons can be experienced and enjoyed. On a site of 130,000 square meters, over 1,400 specimens of rare plants and flowers including forest trees, bushes and aquatic plants are harmoniously arranged against backdrops of magnificent natural scenery. The arboretum also features various botanical gardens in a European style where the esthetic concept and mood of western gardens can be felt.

Under the slogan of ‘Lights Dance in Byeokchoji’ and the theme of Winter Play Experience, this year’s light festival offers various experiential programs particularly for the enjoyment of families, including ice sledding on a pond of approximately 9,900 square meters, human curling, Tuho (Korean traditional stick-throwing game), Yunnori (Korean traditional board game), Jegichagi (Korean traditional shuttlecock game), fishing for smelt and trout, kite flying, top making and spinning, candle making, pottery painting, and yam and potato baking. A fabulous feast of dynamic lights unfolds from 5:00pm to 10:00pm every day, and the 150 meter long Firefly Wow Tunnel, which elicits jaw-dropping exclamations, welcomes visitors at the gate. Visitors can write their own wishes on wish lanterns and hang them along the tunnel. In the Music Garden, a light show that moves with music takes place, and a grand-scale Christmas tree as well as sculptures of various animals and plants are on display, offering various photo zones. The Road of Autumn Colors, which now bears images of winter using LED lights, creates an “olde worlde” atmosphere.

The Light Garden features various unique spectacles such as a fountain of light and a globe of light. In the Aurora Square, the Milky Way Wave Pool which creates waves of colorful lights via one million lights lined up on a 100-meter long display and synchronized with 3D stereophonic sound, offers an impressive view along with trees illuminated by LED lights. The 2015 Byeokchoji Arboretum Light Festival, ‘Light Dances in Byeokchoji!’ which captures the magic of light through cutting-edge lighting shows and also offers winter play experiences, will give families and couples unforgettable memories. During the festival period, a KRW 1,000 discount coupon is provided to each visitor, and the coupon can be used for any program or at any store in the arboretum such as restaurants, cafés, souvenir shops, and the winter play experience center.
