Yangpyeong is famous in Korea for its crystal clear waters. In Yangpyeong, ‘Su (water) mi (rice)’ village is well known for its water, rice and year-round festivals. Sumi village won the Presidential Award in the 2013 Korean Rural Village Awards and has been introduced in the media on more than 100 occasions. The Yangpyeong Strawberry Festival has been planned to promote the excellence of Yangpyeong’s clear waters and strawberries as well as to advertise Sumi village, a mecca for rural tourism. The Strawberry Festival hopes to grow and become an event that represents springtime in Korea.

The Yangpyeong Strawberry Festival will be held for 114 days at Sumi village, a town famous for having festivals 365 days a year. The festival theme revolves around picnics and strawberries. Visitors can choose and enjoy programs that suit their preferences (picking and eating strawberries while standing, picking and eating strawberries while sitting down, strawberry steamed buns, Sumi Bibimbap, pizza and spaghetti, strawberry air-fresheners and strawberry-scented candles, amphibious carriage, alleyway games, raft experience, all-you-can-eat ‘buchimgae’ (vegetable pancakes), road bikes, water bikes, Byeongman’s fresh strawberry ice cream, freshwater fish ecology learning center, and more).
