Foreigners account for 3.4% of Korean population
According to statistics from the National Statistics Office, 1,741,919 foreigners were residing in Korea as of January 1, 2015. This is equivalent to 3.4% of the total registered population (51.33 million). Moreover, the foreigner population in Korea continues to increase each year. It’s become very easy meet foreigners on the streets these days.
Since more people from different cultures are coming together, conflict can be a natural occurrence. Accordingly, Koreans and foreigners must mingle more and try to understand each other in order to live ‘together’.
Together Day event in Gyeonggi Province
To celebrate Together Day on May 20, Gyeonggi Province has prepared a number of events.
The 7th National Multicultural Speaking Competition
We create happy multicultural families and raise global talent!

Events: Dual language speaking, Korean speaking contest for multicultural families across the country
The 9th Together Day Commemoration Event
Gyeonggi Province offers foreign residents and local residents opportunities to communicate with one another!

Events: Traditional hanbok fashion show, Together Day commemorative speech, congratulatory speech, award ceremony for citizens of merit, award ceremony for winners of the national multicultural speaking competition, ceremony, commemorative photo shoot

An opportunity for foreign and local residents to communicate with one another
Gyeonggi Province hopes the events on this year’s Together Day will improve public understanding of cultural diversity while also providing foreign residents and local residents with intermingling experiences.
Also, Gyeonggi Province looks forward to having more people take interest in the national multicultural speaking contest through which people can experience the languages of different countries and showcase their Korean speaking skills. Moreover, Gyeonggi Province hopes people will learn to accept and respect other cultures through these inclusive events.
