This May and June, construction of two children’s museums in Gyeonggi Province, in Goyang City and Dongducheon City, will be completed.

The two children’s museums in northern Gyeonggi Province are ‘experiential and educational cultural venues’ that are expected to be extremely popular among children.

In the past, there weren’t enough cultural venues in northern Gyeonggi. Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province began a project in 2011 to build children’s museums in its northern regions !

As a result, the Dongducheon Children’s Museum officially opened on May 4, and the Goyang Children’s Museum, which is currently undergoing test operations, will officially open in June.

First, the Dongducheon Children’s Museum

The Dongducheoni Children’s Museum is located at 162, Sangbongam-dong. Construction began in August of 2014 on the building (two levels above ground and one level below ground) and was completed in March of 2016. After a provisional opening on April 15, the museum officially opened to the public at 10:00AM on May 4.

The most distinctive feature of this museum is its design under a common thematic concept of ‘children dreaming in the forest’; the entire museum was built to help children feel like they’re on an adventure.

The exhibition halls are divided into six areas: the Dinosaur Zone, Infant Zone, Climber Zone, Forest Ecosystem Zone, Water Activity Zone, and Architecture Zone. They are built so as to enable children to touch and experience the exhibits.

Children can interact with their favorite dinosaurs or learn the value of nature and experience how animals build their homes!

The visitor numbers are limited per session in order to ensure a pleasant visiting environment, so it is advisable to book your tickets online before coming to the museum.

Opening hours: 10:00~18:00 *Museum is open for five 90-minute sessions per day (300 visitors per session)

The Goyang Children’s Museum is set to open at 1003, Hwajeong-dong, Deogyang-gu. Construction began in May of 2014 on the building (three levels above ground and one level below ground) and was completed in March of 2016. After a provisional opening on May 5, the museum is slated to officially open in early June.

The museum has ten exhibition halls: the Ggothyanggi Maeul (floral scent village), A World We Live Together – Hello Earth!, Mulbit Maeul (watercolor village), Baby Forest, Baby Tree, Ani-factory, Architecture Playground, Art Gallery, and We Promise Your Safety. The facilities were designed under a common theme of ‘children who grow hand-in-hand with the world’.

Of particular note, the exhibition halls were created based on a story line that sends the message of understanding ‘differences’ and experiencing ‘us’.

Much like the image of Goyang as a floral city, children can pot plants and flowers themselves at ‘Ggothyanggi Maeul’, and experience how animations are created at ‘Ani-factory’. They can also use model blocks to build and understand buildings at the ‘Architecture Playground’. With all these programs to capture the hearts of children, aren’t you excited about the Goyang Children’s Museum?

The Goyang Children’s Museum will host an opening event from June 4 to June 6 right before its official opening date on June 7. The museum is planning to open experiential booths for various performances like juggling, magic, and music as well as other activities during the event.

Guests planning to visit the museum during the opening event and on opening day can book their tickets online for free through the Goyang Children’s Museum website until May 22.

Opening hours: 10:00-18:00 *Museum is open for five 90-minute sessions per day (for individual visitors, four 150-minute sessions per day for groups), number of people per session is limited to 200~250 individual visitors (400 on weekends), 200 group visitors
