Heart of drama and movie filming locations – Gyeonggi Province!

Whenever you watch a movie or a TV drama, you may have had the experience thinking ‘Where is that?’ or “I think I’ve seen that place before somewhere…’ Some beautiful locations in Gyeonggi Province are popular filming sites for movies and dramas because they’re easy to reach and have distinctive, well preserved landscapes. That’s why they’ve earned the spotlight and appear on screen so often.

That’s why we go to those places today! We’ll go and see several well-known movie or drama filming locations in Gyeonggi Province. I’m already excited and curious to get going!

Bidulginang Falls, a mystical place

Bidulginang Falls in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province offers mystic yet calm and beautiful scenery. It’s already a well-known filming location for several dramas and movies. The water sparkles like jade and the waterfalls that cascade into the pool after rain impart a feeling of tranquility.

Also, there’s a new campsite next to Bidulginang Falls, so visitors can immerse themselves in the attractions of the falls. It’s one of eight key sights of Pocheon, and you can enjoy the scenery at its peak in September when the autumn leaves have turned color!

Perhaps because of its ambiance, several historical dramas have been filmed at Bidulginang Falls. Starting with the MBC historical drama Queen Seondeok of Silla, which was the most talked-about drama while it was on air, Bidulginang Falls has appeared in The Slave Hunters, War of Arrows (which brought in ten million viewers), and the SBS historical drama Six Flying Dragons.

Movie A Werewolf Boy (left); drama It’s Okay, It’s Love (right)

That doesn’t mean only historical dramas have been filmed at this location. A Werewolf Boy, a movie featuring the love story of a werewolf portrayed by actor Song Joong-ki, and the SBS drama It’s Okay, It’s Love, a heart-warming love story, were filmed at Bidulginang Falls. I think they were both filmed at this location because the unique atmosphere of Bidulginang Falls went well with emotions evoked by love.

Petite France, charming and exotic ambiance

This exotic and charming place with European-style architecture that makes you feel like you’re in France, a place offering a wide range of festivals, is Petite France. Not only has this place appeared in various drama series, it has also appeared in several entertainment shows. In particular, the beautiful light fixtures that illuminate the streets at night have helped Petite France become an even more famous filming location at night.

Mostly romantic or passionate scenes have been filmed in Petite France. I think those scenes were so successful because they were able to portray the feeling of Petite France as it is on sight.

Drama Beethoven Virus (left); My Love from the Star (right)

The most famous dramas filmed in Petite France are Beethoven Virus and My Love from the Star. These two shows share the fact that the romantic scenes in which the lovers confirmed each other’s feelings were filmed in Petite France.

Not only that, Petite France shows up quite frequently in entertainment shows and not just TV dramas. Programs like SBS’s Running Man, where the story of the show is written depending on the location, would probably deem Petite France a more attractive site. It might be the perfect place to tell fairy tales like Snow White or the Little Prince!

Byeokchoji Botanical Garden, a place with ample appeal

Located in Paju, Byeokchoji Botanical Garden is one of the best known arboretums in Gyeonggi Province and boasts several attractive features. It feels like a well looked after European garden, and visitors can appreciate the charming appeal of the garden even more through the atmosphere created by the buildings and fixtures.

Because it can create several different moods in one place, rather than just the fresh and lively vibe you normally get from an arboretum, it has become one of the most sought-after locations for various projects.

Drama She Was Pretty

When the TV drama She Was Pretty was being filmed, the Chrysanthemum Festival was taking place at Byeokchoji Botanical Garden. At that time, beautiful flowers were in full bloom just like in the screenshot above. As such, the garden is an even more popular destination because it hosts several festivals each season and producers can create different scenes during the night and day.

Drama Descendants of the Sun

Above is the scene where Captain Yoo Shi-jin calls Master Sergeant Seo while fishing in the TV hit Descendants of the Sun. Did you know that the scene was shot in Byeokchoji Botanical Garden? At first glance, it looks like a reservoir or a river. I think the director was able to film the scene at Byeokchoji Botanical Garden because the garden offers a completely different ambiance at one location.

Drama Deep Rooted Tree (left); Mirror of the Witch (right)

You can see the different sides of Byeokchoji Botanical Garden through how it appears in historical dramas. The teaser clips of the drama Mirror of the Witch as well as Deep Rooted Tree were also filmed at Byeokchoji Botanical Garden. If you’re looking for a place with plenty of different appeal that doesn’t seem to get old, I recommend Byeokchoji Botanical Garden!

So far, I have introduced places across Gyeonggi Province that are being spotlighted as filming locations for movies, dramas, and entertainment shows. I think you might enjoy your movies even more if you know where they were filmed. Apart from the locations above, several productions are being shot all over Gyeonggi Province, so I strongly recommend that you go beyond seeing them on TV and actually go visit them!
