84km to the northeast of Seoul and about 4km from Wuncheon, Mt. Myeongseong presents the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of Sanjeong Lake at the foot of mountain and pleasure of hiking.

A silver grass field is on the gentle slope around the top. In October, the harmony of calm water of Sanjeong Lake and the wide silver grass field around the top enhances the mood of late fall.

In accordance with the legend, when Gungye, who built Taebong state, wailed in this mountain due to the sorrow after his country’s ruination, the mountain also wailed. So the mountain was named “Myeongseong,” Myeong(鳴) meaning wailing and Seong(聲) meaning sound.
