Location: Cheonjinam under Aengjabong (peak), Wusan-ri, Toechon-myeon
When the Cheonjinam site was renovated, one brass incense burner (15cm high, 45m round), one earthenware vessel, a tile piece with letters and many other relics were excavated.
The Catholic church here at present has been constructed on the basis of a 100-year plan.
Roman Catholicism was first studied by Southern region scholars who had western books translated into Korean.
Ten scholars of that time, including Yi Seung-Hun and Jeong Yak-Yong, started an academic meeting to discuss and explore the truth of the universe through the introduction and demonstration of Roman Catholicism by the scholar Yi Byeok, under Aengjabong Peak in the winter of 1779 (3rd year of King Jeongjo’s reign).
The meeting was changed to a Religious Camp in order to lead in the practice of truth after scholars recognized the religious doctrines of Roman Catholicism.
Through research, it was found that Cheonjinam became the origin of Roman Catholicism activity in March 1783.
