The Gwanyang Market is a city-style market that is user friendly and sells a large variety of panchan (side dishes) and vegetables. The storekeepers are proud of having many customers who have come from far away, such as from Gwacheon. This pride shows in the friendly way that they greet customers. What’s more, it is a cozy little neighborhood where everybody seems to know everybody and when you visit you fall into the impression of having travelled to the country. Many of the citizens come here to this place where there is the human element and no large-sized retail mart in the surrounding area.

The market can be found along an approximately 160 meter section of Gwanpyeongno (Gwangpyeong street) that goes East-West next to the wall of Gwanyang Middle School by the entrance to Hyundae Apartments. Because of its location, the market is especially frequented by residents of the Hyundae apartment complex, local residents and citizens looking for the Gwanak Mountain’s Samlimyokjang (a place in deep woods where you breathe the forest air for therapeutic purposes).

Along the street of the market you will find daily use articles, vegetables, fruits, and panchan (side dishes) along with a variety of inexpensively priced products. Shops are open from the early hours of the morning until late in the evening and there is a steady flow of people throughout the day. It somehow creates the feeling of a small, local and unpretensive market that people who come here once want to come back to again later.
