○ The Gyeonggi Provincial Government will produce VR content featuring tourist attractions and accommodation facilities in the province for individuals with disabilities (August to November 2021)

– Video theme: Information on amenities for individuals with disabilities and detailed pedestrian environments of each facility section

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government will provide online virtual reality (VR) content that will allow individuals with disabilities to view tourist attractions and accommodation facilities before visiting. The content is slated for release in December this year.

From August to November, the province will conduct field inspections at 80 locations in the province, covering 60 tourist attractions and 20 tourist accommodation facilities such as Semiwon in Yangpyeong County and Gaetgol Eco Park in Siheung City. Through these inspections, the provincial government seeks to compile the latest information on the related amenities (e.g., accessible parking, toilets, baby shelters, lactation rooms, etc.), as well as visitor information and actual pedestrian environments.

Based on the information collected, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government will produce VR content that will then be posted on the “Barrier-Free Gyeonggi Tourism” microsite in December so that anyone can easily access the information.

The VR content will be designed to allow users to select desired information beyond simple onscreen displays and to examine the facilities in depth through 360-degree panoramic images. In addition, the province will include “aerial VR,” which provides front views, as well as an audio function to increase information accessibility.

“There are sometimes situations wherein individuals with disabilities experience inconvenience or confusion due to a lack of various amenities when they are traveling in the province. We hope to use this content to provide practical assistance to all residents who wish to travel,” said Choi Yong-hun, Director of the Tourism Division of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government.

Meanwhile, the provincial government has selected 60 tourist attractions based on attractiveness and accessibility relative to individuals with disabilities over the past 3 years, as well as 20 tourist accommodation facilities featuring superior accessibility from among 200 registered tourist accommodation facilities in the province for VR content and facility field inspections.
