○ On March 18, Gyeonggi Province and the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation signed an agreement on environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices and the promotion of low-carbon dietary habits.

○ Korea Green Food Day will provide an opportunity to cut carbon in the food sector by fostering low-carbon dietary habits.

Gyeonggi Province will participate in the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT)’s Korea Green Food Day campaign to foster the habits of low-carbon and green eating.

On March 18, Acting Gyeonggi Governor Oh Byoung-kwon and aT President Kim Chun-jin signed an MOU at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government complex for environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices and low-carbon dietary habit promotion, as well as for local economic revitalization.

According to the agreement, Gyeonggi Province will undertake the following: (a) host Korea Green Food Day along with promotional activities; (b) revitalize local economies and practice mutual growth by supporting virtuous cycles for regional foods; and (c) enhance public awareness of the climate crisis and promote carbon-neutral living practices.

Korea Green Food Day is a low-carbon dietary campaign aimed at promoting green eating habits and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from food production and distribution. On this day, people consume meals made from regional low-carbon and green agricultural products.

First and foremost, the province intends to designate and implement Korea Green Food Day in the provincial government cafeteria. The participating organizations will (a) prepare low-carbon, green agricultural products (production), (b) utilize locally grown foods (distribution), and (c) minimize food waste by preparing the appropriate food amounts (consumption).

Acting Gyeonggi Governor Oh Byoung-kwon said, “The realization of environmental, social and governance (ESG) values is a necessity of the times and something we should practice for the sustainable life of future generations.” He added, “We will cooperate with aT to support Gyeonggi Province’s efforts to expand low-carbon eating habits among families, workplaces and communities.”
