Gyeonggi Province will invest in the development and promotion of each district’s cultural content.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government, Bucheon City, Anseong City, and the Gyeonggi Digital Contents Agency (GDCA) held an official conference at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex in Suwon. Among the twenty officials attending were Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo, Bucheon Mayor Kim Man-soo, Anyang Mayor Choi Dae-ho, and Anseong Mayor Hwang Eun-seong., who came together to celebrate the signing of the “Gyeonggi Province’s City and County Cultural Contents Development Project Agreement.”
KRW 480 million was set aside for this project (Bucheon KRW 40 million, Anyang 10 million, Anseong 10 million, GDCA 24 million), which will be led by Gyeonggi Province in collaboration with the cities Bucheon, Anyang, and Anseong. Part of the plan is to develop local cultural resources and integrate them with cutting-edge technology incorporating smart phone application formats and mobile web pages. These contents are scheduled for release on December 31, 2011.
The idea behind the project is to stimulate the local economy by making the best of each district’s unique culture, history, art, and tourist resources.
Governor Kim said in his speech that: “Culture is more than technique or skill; it is the very spirit of the local community, the backbone of local people’s lives. Careful development will enable us to turn these unique charms into global attractions. We must think outside of the box and develop contents that make the best use of our local culture.”
Bucheon will concentrate on developing video, music, and cartoon contents. The city has already gained a head start with its Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival. Anyang will focus on cultural assets and performances, while Anseong’s Baudeogi and Anseongyugi, along with other intangible cultural assets, are being reviewed for further development.
The public contents (applications, mobile webpages) will include location-based virtual reality programs for user convenience as well as games and quizzes to educate the general public on the region’s cultural resources in an application format. These contents will be integrated with social network services to stimulate active interaction.
Look forward to visiting a textbook-compatible cultural resource page and a ‘My Page’ menu where you can post videos and pictures. Local government news will be updated in real time for customer convenience and satisfaction.
An agency official said, “Our previous information-based applications were not exactly popular with users and the contents lifespan was very short. But this time we are going to focus on actual trips to the locations so as to heighten participation and increase the number of tourists.”
All 31 city and county districts in Gyeonggi Province will participate in the development of public contents in the future.
