Gyeonggi-do is pushing forward a power project of installing sewage disposal facilities and restructuring the sewer system to supply a pleasant environment to its residents. This project’s goal is to maintain the functions of an urban community for urbanization while simultaneously conserve the water quality of megalopolis service water supplied from natural areas such as the Paldang Lake.

The province has installed and is currently operating 59 sewage facilities, which can process 42 tons of water daily. To expand sewage facilities last year, Gyeonggi-do has invested 2 trillion and 519 billion Won. The replenishment rate of the sewer system has largely rise to 76.1% from that of later last year.

In addition, Gyeonggi-do has invested 2 trillion and 236 billion Won to install and maintain 11,837km of sewer systems last year. This investment achieved an installation rate of 62.2%. 77 sewer systems of small districts is currently in use since an investment of 18 billion Won last year

This construction project will continue until 76 new facilities and 31 existing facilities are expand till 2006.

The project includes 10 sewage facilities near residential areas for underground systems and public gardening. To minimize algae, an advanced processing facilities will be installed to remove nitrogen and phosphorus also be installed.

Although there is no provincial support standard in the current cession guideline to reduce financial straits of related districts and also control the support standard rates for the sewer system maintenance project, positive review of a plan to support 50% of total costs because of the urgent situation of improvements to the water supply and the promotion of efficiency of the sewer system.
