Under national interest for 60 days, The 2nd World Ceramic Biennale, held in Gyeonggi-do, will end on Oct. 30.
This year’s biennale was held with about 1/10 of the budget used for the biennale of 2001. Events and attractions were held in three districts, Icheon, Gwangju and Yeoju.
Events are divided into free events, such as admission to ceramic product center, public performance workshop and experiencing ceramic art, and charged events.
For 60 days, total number of visitors throughout the three districts has exceeded the expected goal by 4 million.
Visitors who visited charged exhibitions have summed up to 500 thousand and about 6 thousand were foreigners.
The most important outcome from the 2nd biennale is that many ceramic artists from all over the world has come to visit. From the successful results of the first and second World Ceramic Biennale, the third biennale that will be held in 2005, will definitely put Korea as a leading ceramic country.
Exhibitions were held in Incheon World Ceramic Center, Gwangju Joseon Royal Kiln Museum, Yeoju International Livingware Gallery. These centers will be closed for the time being and then reopen as permanent exhibition centers in November.
