The Civil Aviation Safety Authority of the Ministry of Construction & Transportation (MOCT) has announced that a text message service using wireless data communication with digital methods will start providing information on airplane departure permission and take off/land of each airport in major international airports in Korea.

This service will use a system developed with Korean technology and has already gone through pilot testing at Gimpo Airport starting from 2000. Results from the testing were favorable high between pilots and coefficient of utilization has increased. This system will be applied throughout major airports including Gimhae, Jeju, Daegu, Gwangju and Ulsan.
The system also has features for foreign airlines to use information on Korean airports that can be useful to pilots flying in and out of Korea.

Previous inconveniences in communication between officials and pilots through wireless voice communication methods, long communication time, insufficient frequencies and other problems can be solved with this new system.

Furthermore, almost all communication and electronic equipment of airport control towers are imported but this system is the first to be developed domestically and will reduce foreign currency and also be an opportunity to enhance aerial communication technology.
