According to the regulations for bio-terrorism set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in America, starting on Dec. 12, all food products sent to America must be declared in advance. However, those sent as postal mail through post offices are not influenced by the above regulations and can be sent without declaration until the end of March next year.

Due to regulations established by FDA, the declaration of foodstuff sent by international mail may cause troublesome formalities and these complicated inconveniences are planned to be minimized by a 4 month redemption period by the United States Postal Service (USPS).

The Korea Post is pressing to form measures with the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and USPS, to resolve inconveniency that might occur after the 4 month term is terminated.

In addition, plans to uplift difficulties on sending foodstuff through mail are being considered.

America has tightened control over food shipmen, so clearance and deliveries may be delayed. Packages containing contents that may decay are the responsibility of the sender so those who wish to send food products abroad must take special caution.
