To support the development of the display industry, which is also the dynamic industry for the growing next generation, Gyeonggi-do plans to send a delegation party organized with TFT-LCD makers and members of MOCIE (Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy) and Gyeonggi-Do Regional Office of Federation of Korean Trade Union, and experts from LG-Philips LCD, Samsung Electronics and other companies. The party will visit Japan from Feb. 16 to 19 and actively present and explain investment conditions to companies in Tokyo and Osaka.

The purpose of sending the party is to maintain the growth of the LCD industry in Korea. The most urgent task is to increase economic affect and activate the local economy.

The Gyeonggi-do government is creating a LCD cooperation industry complex of 500 thousand pyeong in Munsan. The purpose of the complex is to backup LG Philiips LCD factory in Paju, which is building the world first 7-generation production line in Paju, and also Samsung Electronics’s factory in Asan. Rental area of 234 thousand pyeong will be created nearby the Samsung Electronic Asan factory, in Poseung, Pyeongtaek (80,000) and Hyeongok (154,000).

The background of the delegation party starts by the organization of purchasing managers of domestic companies. Gyeonggi-do government will support building sites for foreign companies to establish factories and private businesses will promise to purchase components from investors.

The representative of Korea’s labor world, leader of Gyeonggi-do Regional Office of Fed-eration of Korean Trade Union, also joined the party. This shows the positive cooperation of not only domestic laborers but also the support for inducing foreign capital. Hopes for the labor-management dispute to cool off by this event is expected and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (MOCIE) foresee achievements by explaining various national incentives to Japanese investors.

In spite of the short stay of 4 days and 3 nights, schedule includes individual visits to 10 Japanese companies, group investment conferences and other agendas. Company N that manufactures main parts of TFT-LCDs and 4 other companies has already concluded MOUs (memorandum of understanding) worth 116 million dollars and company C that produces LCDs and alignment layers and other 2 companies has concluded LOIs (letter of intent) worth 18 million dollars. Total amount adds up to 490 million dollars.

For an efficient and smooth schedule, the party will depart from Gimpo by the KAL shuttle plane and start a business meeting immediately. This active schedule is proof to show investors that the relation between Korea and Japan is intact.

Individual conferences with 3 companies will be held and a social meeting with CEOs from Japanese companies that already are investing in Gyeonggi-do will be held on the first day, (Feb. 16). After four individual conferences and a group conference, the party will move to Osaka by Shinkansen during the night on the second day (Feb. 17). Final individual conferences with 3 companies will be held on Feb. 18 to 19 and on the final day, Feb. 19, the party will depart from Osaka and return through the Incheon International Airport.
