○ Gyeonggi Province seeks companies to participate in “AR-based remote control manufacturing process” project until October 16
○ One selected company to remotely supply manufacturing process using AR

○ Expected to enhance competitiveness of manufacturing industry through AR during COVID-19 pandemic

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government and the Gyeonggi Business and Science Accelerator (GBSA) are searching for companies that wish to participate in the “Augmented Reality (AR)-based Remote Control Manufacturing Process” project until October 16.

When AR technology is applied to manufacturing processes, unskilled workers can remotely receive instructions from skilled workers or a manager can remotely control the manufacturing process, allowing real-time cooperation among people who are in different locations. Also, when AR is applied in work training such as parts assembly, both hands can be used more freely than when using books, and trainees can learn in a more intuitive manner.

For example, when a worker wears a pair of AR glasses, information on what tool is needed, how to use a particular part, or where to place a part will be displayed on the glasses, and managers can give assistance through a monitor or inspect work. These glasses are already used by some domestic AR developers.

Gyeonggi Province will be selecting both suppliers and customers. Suppliers must be companies that have AR-based manufacturing process technologies, while customers must be SMEs within the province that wish to establish an AR-based manufacturing process system for free.

Suppliers must be companies that have experience in distributing AR-based manufacturing process technologies or wish to distribute such technologies. The performance and effects after distribution will be subject to evaluation. Customers will be evaluated based on demand for the technology and the feasibility of system installation.

Gyeonggi Province will select one supplier and offer support funds of KRW 300 million. As for customers, six companies will be selected for installation of the AR-based remote support system established by the supplier.

Future Growth Policy Bureau Director General Lim Moon-young (Gyeonggi Provincial Government) said, “This project aims to increase the productivity of companies through AR and to spread the use of this technology.” He added, “We expect to expand the relatively lagging AR market and establish a new ecosystem in this contactless era.”
