Tourists who visit Namhansanseong Fortress dressed in a hanbok (traditional Korean clothes) will be exempted from parking and entrance fees to the Temporary Palace starting February 1.

Gyeonggi Province announced on January 28 that it will offer free admission and parking to hanbok-wearing tourists visiting the Temporary Palace of Namhansanseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, starting from February 1, in order to revitalize cultural tourism and the local economy by using this cultural asset.

Tourists wearing hanboks have been exempted from the entrance fee of KRW 2,000 when visiting the Temporary Palace. However, from February this year, the fee exemption will be extended to the parking lot. The parking fee is currently KRW 3,000 on weekdays and KRW 5,000 on weekends.

To be exempted from the parking fee, at least one person per vehicle must be wearing a hanbok. Free parking is provided to those fully dressed in a hanbok (jacket and skirt/pants). Those simply wearing a hanbok coat over their clothes will not receive an exemption. The standards are in line with the Cultural Heritage Administration’s guidelines for free entrance to Gyeongbokgung Palace for tourists dressed in hanboks.

Choi Byeong-gil, Director of the World Heritage Center for Namhansanseong, said, “We will create an atmosphere that promotes the hanbok among tourists visiting Namhansanseong Fortress by benchmarking related programs at Gyeongbokgung Palace and Jeonju Hanok Village. We will also continue to develop further strategies in an effort to invigorate cultural tourism and the local economy using this World Heritage Site.”
