Yangpyeong’s Yongmun Millennium Sijang, the first beneficiary of the Win-Win Gyeonggi Sharing Market Project that was launched by the seventh popularly elected Gyeonggi provincial administration, held special events in celebration of the Lunar New Year holidays.

According to Gyeonggi Province’s announcement on February 1, Yongmun Millenium Sijang’s Beyblade Burst Championship was held the following day at the Wish Fulfillment Zone of Deungyongmun Square, Yongmun Millennium Sijang, Yangpyeong County.

The event, held as part of the Win-Win Gyeonggi Sharing Market Project, was aimed at maximizing the customer attraction effect through specialized cultural, performance and experiential programs. The event was sponsored by Young Toys, a leading domestic toy and animated film company.

“Beyblade Burst Turbo” is a Japanese animation that depicts the story of friendships and child growth through top spinning competitions. It is very popular among young children and elementary school students.

In the event, the participants will compete in an area dedicated to Beyblade matches. The player whose top stops or breaks that of the opponent wins.

The event is drawing attention as the first event jointly held by a traditional market and a large toy company to attract customers with children.

The event will also operate programs through which residents can buy fruits, daily supplies, products of agricultural cooperatives and handicrafts directly from producers so as to attract family visitors.

The Sharing Market project is one of the provincial administration’s five major election pledges for the vitalization of the local economy by strengthening the community functions of traditional markets, which used to serve as forums where residents could meet and interact with each other, and revitalizing traditional markets.

Gyeonggi Province, as it takes a step away from conventional government-led unilateral support approaches, plans to organize the Gyeonggi Sharing Market Win-Win Consultative Group, which will include local economic agents such as residents and merchants (cooperatives, social enterprises, farmers, etc.) and help them lead the operations of the Gyeonggi Sharing Market.

To this end, Gyeonggi Province has eased regulations on outdoor sales and road use licenses and is seeking to revitalize local commercial areas and promote a virtuous cycle in the local economy by promoting new cultural, performance, and experiential events, by developing and operating related programs, and by using local vouchers.

Gyeonggi Province selected Yongmun Millennium Sijang as a pilot project site for the foundation of the Gyeonggi Sharing Market in October last year and offered support of KRW 100 million from the provincial budget.

Based on the results of the test project at Yongmun Millennium Sijang, Gyeonggi Province plans to launch the Gyeonggi Sharing Market project by investing KRW 8.2 billion in 41 locations by 2022.

Park Seung-sam, Director of Gyeonggi Province’s Small Business Division, said, “The Gyeonggi Sharing Market project promoted by the seventh popularly elected provincial administration aims to revitalize local commercial areas and create a virtuous cycle within the local economy. We hope that many residents will participate and show interest in the project to help the creation of a healthy economic ecosystem.”
