Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor Kim Hee-kyeum leads an official delegation on a 9-day mission to Mexico, Colombia, and the United States from May 2 to 10.

Seeking to strengthen economic cooperation, such as entry by Gyeonggi Province companies into the Latin American market, meetings are scheduled with leaders of the Mexico state government and Colombian government as well as with local business representatives in the US.

The delegation is slated to meet with Enrique Jacob Rocha, Mexico State’s Economic Development Minister, and Aurora Gonzalez Ledesma, Mexico State’s Tourism Minister, in the state capital city of Toluca on May 2 to discuss the strengthening of exchange and cooperation between the two regions.

Gyeonggi Province and the State of Mexico signed a sisterhood agreement in 1996, but exchanges have been limited for the past 10 years due to circumstances in the State of Mexico. Gyeonggi Province seeks to expand practical cooperation in the fields of economy, tourism and health through this visit. In particular, it plans to help exceptional companies of the province with entry into the Mexican market through the Gyeonggi Province-State of Mexico Business Forum, and to prepare a foothold for the Latin American entry of its beauty industry. Gyeonggi Province also plans to discuss cooperation in tourism with Mexico, the world’s sixth largest tourism destination, as well as the creation of a cooperative system in the healthcare sector.

On May 6, the delegation is scheduled to meet with Castro Sierra, the Deputy Minister of Digital Economy of the Information and Communication Industry Ministry of Colombia, to discuss a cooperation plan including sharing policies of Colombia’s Orange Economy and Gyeonggi Province’s 4th Industrial Revolution. The “Orange Economy” is an economic development model pursued by Colombian President Iván Duque Márquez that aims to foster creativity-oriented industries such as those of the 4th Industrial Revolution and cultural content fields.

During this meeting, Vice Governor Kim plans to discuss ways in which Colombian companies can participate in G-Fair, an SME product exhibition hosted by Gyeonggi Province, and PlayX4, a game industry exhibition, as well as ways in which Gyeonggi Province companies can enter the Colombian market.

The delegation also plans to visit Los Angeles to meet with local business representatives and discuss strategies as well as support policies for US market entry by Gyeonggi Province SMEs.
