The Korea Ceramic Foundation (KOCEF) will hold the Korea International Ceramic Biennale (KICB) 2021 International Competition.
The first KICB International Competition, which was held in 2001, has led global trends in ceramic arts and the discovery of new artists. In 2019, 1,585 artists from 82 countries submitted a total of 10,719 pieces and found success through the competition, which continues to grow in scope and number of participants.
The competition, which was originally an open call for artists, has been transformed this year into an open call for artworks so as to exhibit the works of more artists.
Prize money totaling KRW 91 million will be awarded as follows: KRW 50 million for the Grand Prize (1 winner); KRW 20 million for the Gold Prize (1 winner); KRW 10 million for Silver Prize (1 winner); KRW 7 million for Bronze Prize (1 winner); and KRW 1 million for Popular Prize (1 winner). The winners will also be invited to participate in the KICB Residency Program and the opening ceremony of KICB 2021.
All modern artworks and practical ceramic works, including sculptures, handicrafts, paintings, photographs, and video arts, that incorporate clay (ceramics) are eligible for submission, regardless of the age or nationality of the artist.
Qualifications are: 1 individual or 1 team; a maximum of 3 artworks; artworks created within the past 3 years with no prior awards from other international or local competitions. To apply for the competition, applicants are required to submit entry images along with the application form during the month of January 2020 via the application website (www.kicb.co.kr).
KOCEF CEO Choi Yeon said, “This international competition has been transformed from an open call for artists to an open call for artworks. We hope that more creative ceramic artists from around the world will take part in the event.”
