Filming locations for A Werewolf Boy and Its Okay, Thats Love

[Pocheon] Bidulginang Falls

Roughly 300,000 years ago, there was a large volcanic eruption in Pyeonggang-gun, North Korea. Lava from the volcano flowed across the area where Pocheon, Yeoncheon and Paju stand today to create a vast region of igneous rock in the shape of columns. Later on, river water flowed into the cracks, eroded the basalt basin, and created cliffs and valleys. The basalt valley now features a picturesque waterfall called Bidulginang Falls.

5.jpg Images

It was named ‘Bidulginang’ because white pigeons used to inhabit the area. Pigeons do not live there now, but it has become a popular filming location for movies such as A Werewolf Boy, Arrow, the Ultimate Weapon, and The Tiger as well as K-dramas such as Queen Seon Deok and The Slave Hunters.

Also, a columnar joint continues for roughly 400m from the waterfall to Hantangang River. At the observation deck located 100m away from the mouth of Bidulginang Falls, you will be able to see the waterfall tucked in the steep valley along with a beautiful view of the surrounding Hantangang River. It really is a stunning scene so I recommend a visit!

You may wonder why we have to bother to drive all the way to a farm. Once you see the stallion farm, however, which is even more beautiful in the autumn, you will reconsider.  As you get closer to the farm, you will see colorful autumn foliage and gingko leaves beckoning you to come quickly. So take a look around and try to locate the ranch.

This place, which was an equestrian venue during Seoul Olympic Games in 1988, has become a peaceful range where horses graze peacefully.  What is more incredible is that this exotic scenery is only an hour’s drive from Seoul.  In addition, be sure to note that the Samoneung walk trail, which is right next to the farm, is also a walking course that should not be missed.

eng.jpg Images

Autumn, the best season for walking, is back with some pleasant and breezy weather.

If you’re planning for a weekend out to enjoy the refreshing atmosphere and scenes of autumn, take a look at these five arboretums in Gyeonggi Province waiting to welcome you with plenty of shade and cool air.

Pocheon Pyunggang Botanical Garden

1.jpg Images

Well known as the backdrop of several K-drama hits including Can You Hear My Heart, Arang and the Magistrate, and Big, Pyunggang Botanical Garden is an arboretum located at 203, Umulmok-gil, Yeongbuk-myeon, Pocheon City.

Pocheon Pyunggang Botanical Garden features 12 gardens with distinct themes including the largest rock garden in Asia, some 6,000m2 large, a waterlily garden with more than 50 types of waterlilies, and an evergreen grass lawn. You’ll get a chance to enjoy a wide range of different sceneries at Pyunggang.

In particular, if you climb to the marsh eco-park observation deck on a good autumn day, you’ll be able to find chestnuts, pine cones, and acorn shells the squirrels have cracked open. Not only that, Pyunggang has numerous maple trees as well as the endangered Danyang aster, Siberian chrysanthemum, northern dendranthema, and goldenrod.

Here’s one more tip for people planning to visit Pocheon Pyunggang Botanical Garden! Yangpyeong Wildflower Arboretum

2.jpg Images

If you’d like to take in the autumn scenery by a river, I recommend the Wildflower Arboretum. Located in Yangpyeong County, where the Namhangang River twists and turns through the area, The Wildflower Arboretum is the only riverside arboretum in Korea. It’s even more special thanks to interesting outdoor gardens, wildflower colonies, and an herb garden.

If you walk past the beautiful outdoor garden, which looks like it came straight out of an Andersen children’s story, you’ll arrive at some wildflower colonies and the natural eco-museum. The colonies feature more than 200 species of indigenous wildflowers that are hard to come by, while the natural eco-museum is home to insect specimens including the tiger swallowtail butterfly and longhorned beetle as well as several fresh water fish such as the minnow and swiri.

There’s a nice pier for boats on the Namhangang River, and the garden is also home to a nice nature-inspired course that helps children become closer to nature. The Yangpyeong Wildflower Arboretum invites you to enjoy clear skies and the glimmering waters of Namhangang River in the bright autumn sunshine.

Apart from its trees, you can enjoy more than 100 different types of wildflowers in the wildflower garden, as well as an herb village full of aromatic scents and an all-season sledding slope. Thanks to these facilities, you can enjoy Yongdo Tree Garden for some hands-on activities and a break in the bosom of nature.

Icheon Deocpyeong Dinosaur Arboretum

5.jpg Images

If you ask me to recommend the most unique arboretum in Gyeonggi Province, I’d suggest Deocpyeong Dinosaur Arboretum. As its name suggests, you can see dinosaurs at this special arboretum. Frankly, you might think that arboretums and dinosaurs have nothing to do with each other. It might be a good idea, however, to go visit a unique arboretum rather than going to similar places every time.

Icheon Deocpyeong Dinosaur Arboretum has more than 3,000 species of trees such as chestnut trees and nut pine trees that go well with autumn, more than 1,000 species of succulent plants such as cacti in its green house, and more than 100 types of tropical plants such as coffee trees, banana trees, and papaya trees. So it’s an ideal place to see some interesting plants on a cool autumn day.

The most interesting point here, though, is the dinosaur and insect exhibition hall that features dinosaur and insect models that move and sound like they’re alive. Befitting its moniker, Deocpyeong has over 20 types of dinosaurs including the tyranosaurus rex, pachycephalosaurus, and triceratops in addition to insect models such as a giant grasshopper and praying mantis. Rumor has it that this is the most popular feature among children.

In addition to its dinosaur and insect hall, Deocpyeong has a sculpture park with more than 300 silicified wood specimens created over the past 500 years, the beombawi cave where legend says a tiger actually lived, and a cluster of fir trees that abound with phytoncide.

Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, beauty acknowledged all over the world

Source: Gyeonggi Tourism Organization / Written by: DREAM

Suwon Hwaseong Fortress is not just one of the key historic sites of Gyeonggi Province but also a World Heritage Site designated by UNESCO. Hwaseong is well known for paths along the fortress walls in the middle of the city that look beautiful at night. The fortress is also historically significant in that it was built by King Jeongjo in memory of his father, Crown Prince Sado, during the late Joseon Dynasty using ‘geojunggi’ (crane), the most advanced technology of that time, that were developed by Jeong Yak-yong. Today, when the sun sets at Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, you can enjoy a park stretching along the fortress wall that is lit by beautiful light fixtures. It’s a great destination for those who love taking in nightscapes, and it’s also a fantastic photo spot for couples.

It’s so romantic that, if you mount the walls of Hwaseong Fortress and look at Suwon’s nightscape, you’ll have no choice but to fall in love. In particular, Banghwasuryujeong, which is one of the highlights of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, is famous for its beautiful view throughout the year regardless of the season. Banghwasuryujeong is the name of one of four pavilions of Suwon Hwaseong; it is located in the northeast section of the fortress. It was built on a spot that offers a superlative view. It was built to help guard against enemies during times of war, but now with the small lake called Yongyeon outside the walls, it has been transformed into a place that looks like a scene from an oriental painting.

The Hoeamsa Temple site is a key historical location in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province. Today, you can visit the site of Hoeamsa Temple, which was destroyed by fire, the Hoeamsa Temple Site History Museum, and the newly built Hoeamsa Temple that offers a magnificent view of the mountains in Yangju.

Recently, a large park was created around the museum and the temple site. It’s a vast grass lawn that connects the Hoeamsa Temple Site History Museum and the temple site. At night, it becomes even more of an attractive place.

Yeongwol Neighborhood Park, Yeoju

At Yeoju Neighborhood Park, you can see Namhangang River and downtown Yeoju at a glance. This is one of the key parks in southern Gyeonggi Province that features a river, park, and historical significance. Yeoju Neighborhood Park is a living, breathing place with a collection of historical sites and artifacts including: the one-thousand-year-old Silleuksa Temple, Yeongwollu, which has been designated as Gyeonggi Province Cultural Property no. 37; Chang-ri Three-story Stone Pagoda, which has been designated as a national treasure; Ha-ri Three-story Stone Pagoda; and Maam, which has been designated as local relic no. 20 in Yeoju. Of particular note, the panoramic view of the twisting and turning Namhangang River is a highlight of Yeoju Neighborhood Park.

Inside the Park at Yeongwollu, which is believed to be 18th century structure, you can see Namhangang River and downtown Yeoju. You can also visit the beautiful Maam where it is said that poets used to visit Yeongwollu in the past and enjoy the arts.

What Ahn Jung-geun did on October 26, 1909, is a historic event we must not forget. The spirit and patriotism he showed remains in the hearts of Koreans to this day. Downtown Bucheon in Gyeonggi Province is home to the Ahn Jun-geun Park, which was established in his honor.

This park features more than just a bronze statue of Ahn Jung-geun. It also has a mural of his life, his autograph, and a monument with a record of his conversation with the presiding judge of the high court in Yeosun. This place has a large floating population since it is the center of Bucheon and close to department stores and shopping malls. You can enjoy a stroll here thanks to its proximity to the city center, and it offers an ideal chance to learn more about the life of Ahn Jung-geun including his assassination of Ito Hirobumi.
