The Gyeonggi Provincial Office plans to build four more municipal geriatric hospitals specializing in the treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease and strokes to serve different areas of the province (to benefit 1) Yeoju-Gwangju-Seongnam, 2) Yongin-Suwon-Hwaseong, 3) Paju, Euijeongbu-Gapyeong, and 4) Siheung-Bucheon-Gimpo), as part of its efforts to ensure the improved welfare of the region’s elderly.

At present, the western part of the province has only one geriatric hospital (Shinae Hospital in Bucheon with 42 beds) despite the number of senior citizens aged 60 or more in the area. Thus, this region will be given priority for the building of supplementary treatment and care centers, as the Office plans to erect geriatric hospitals with a total of 200 beds in Bucheon between 2004 and 2006 on a budget of \12 billion, and will operate them on a commission basis.

In the northern part of the province, the Office plans to transfer the relevant subsidies from the central government, which were originally intended for the Gimpo area, to the construction of a provincial geriatric hospital after the completion of a feasibility study.
